I recently upgraded from my trusty old DS-414 toDS-423+, and I couldn't be more pleased with the experience. The setup process was incredibly straightforward. As a Network Engineer I found everything was very easy and within no time, I had the device up and running. What impressed me most was the ultra-quick transition of my data and settings from the DS-414. I was expecting a bit of downtime or potential hiccups, but the process was smooth and seamless. It’s clear that Synology has put a lot of thought into making upgrades as easy as possible for existing users. The new model has delivered noticeable improvements in both speed and performance, and the updated features are a welcome bonus. If you’re considering an upgrade, I highly recommend it—it’s a hassle-free process with fantastic results. Thanks, Synology, for making the transition so effortless and enjoyable!

I bought this to replace aging Lenovo and Seagate NAS. The difference is night and day. The software is amazing, so functional. It's rock solid as a NAS and also doubles as a security camera NVR. Synology Photos is a great app to display your photos locally (there is an app to tie into it with your phone) and it all seems to run seamlessly in the background without trouble. Temperatures are rock steady, even in low ventilation areas. I should have bought this years ago instead of saving money with cheaper units.

Pros:The OS and other supporting software is so simple and just works, SHR is a clever file system clever, Physical size is small for a 4 bay unit, Surveillance Station is great and easy to set up, Long software support. No EOL shenanigans.
Cons:only 2x 1GbE, Outdated CPU affects background processing time, Requirement for hideously overpriced Synology branded NVME for storage, Only 2 camera licenses with Surveillance Station, High price for specs

This NAS works very well as did the previous Synology NAS (DS418J) that got bricked after a power blackout. Apparently a weakness so you must have a UPS attached. Fortunately no data loss from the attached HDD's after the bricking just the "flashing blue light of death" from that previous NAS

Pros:Does the job very well
Cons:Need a UPS to prevent bricking

Enjoying the product so far. It's quiet, unobtrusive (for its size) and does everything that I want from a NAS. I'm only using a fraction of its capacity, but I bought it with the view to have expandability in the future.

Pros:Quiet, does what its supposed to

Very good NAS and disk migration with Synology is fantastic … just a bit pricy.

Simple to use and works as advertised. The Celeron doesn’t appear to drag performance down, though I have only used it to host a Plex server, copy and host files over SMB up until now.

Pros:Simple to setup and use, and just works. For home/personal use I think the specs are more than adequate.
Cons:Noise(disk activity) is noticeable in a small room or study. Even with the rubber feet

Since this is the first NAS purchased and not really know what to expect of it. Overall, it is what I needed. However, since the unit is placed in lounge room. It is a little noisy to my liking. Noise from drives vibrations and fan. And there are no features inside the case to reduce noise. I will need to research ways to minimize noise. If the unit is placed not next to where one work then there is no issues.
